How to play

Snowball fights in your browser, against real people. Five hits and you're an ice cube. Everything else on this page is detail.

Quick start. No download.

There is nothing to install and nothing to update. If your device has a browser, it has the game.

  1. Open it

Open the game in any modern browser at the game's page, on a phone, laptop or desktop.

  2. Sign up, or just play

Pick a username (3 to 16 letters, numbers or underscores) and a password, or tap Play now, pick a name later and the game makes you a townie account on the spot. You can give it a real name in Settings whenever you like. Players must be 18 or older either way.

  3. Pick a fighter

Choose Chubs, Zeke, Dex, Hoodie or one of 36 townsfolk, or build your own in one of three custom slots.

  4. Jump in

You land in a live room with up to 12 players. Bots fill any empty spots. Your first match is gentle, with one tip at a time.

Everyone plays the same. Fighters only change the look, so the one with the hat is not secretly faster. The maker has 14 hats, 6 faces, 6 builds, 9 hair styles, 7 accessories, a coat or a snowsuit, 5 face covers and any colors you like.

Controls

Three ways to play. All of them end with someone getting a snowball in the face.

Moving around. Up is good.

The town is built to climb. Fences, hay bales, crate stacks, car roofs, the train and the shop rooftops are all places to fight from.

  • Climb ledges. Jump at a ledge up to about 2.5 meters high and you pull yourself up onto it.
  • Slide-hops. Sprint, slide, then jump out of the slide. You keep the speed and gain a little. Chain them.
  • Forgiving jumps. A jump pressed just before you land still happens. So does one pressed just after you run off an edge.
  • Sprint for 4.5 seconds. Then you're out of breath. It refills after a short pause, and faster than you'd think.
  • Trampolines. They launch you about 4 meters up. Jumping or sliding at the right moment also dodges a throw.

The best pick-up pads are on the rooftops.

The basics. Snow, mostly.

  • Five in hand. You carry 5 snowballs. They refill one at a time: every 1.1 seconds on the move, every 0.35 seconds standing still. Standing still is faster and also how you get hit.
  • Charge it. Hold to wind up for up to 0.9 seconds, then let go. Snowballs fly in a real arc, so lob over cover.
  • Five hits, frozen. Take 5 hits and you're an ice cube. Any weapon you were holding drops where you stood.
  • Freeze cam. While you thaw, the camera pulls out and circles your frozen self, so you see the pose you got caught in. A line under the countdown tells you something useful, like who got you and that revenge pays.
  • Back in 3 seconds. You respawn after 3 seconds with a 1.5-second spawn shield. Use it to leave, not to gloat.
  • Aim high. A headshot does one extra heart of damage.
  • Red wedge. When you're hit, a red wedge at the edge of the screen points at whoever did it, for under a second.

Weapon crates are scattered around town and restock 14 seconds after someone grabs one. Seven weapons are yours from your first round, and the other thirteen are earned in play, by level, from care packages, the slush fund drop and chests. They can also be bought in the Armoury, as the same weapons with the same numbers. Clips run out, so enjoy it while it lasts.

  • Yellow snowYour next 3 throws do double damage. Don't ask.
  • Hot cocoaExtra speed for 8 seconds.
  • PresentsBlocks one hit.

Every day is different. On purpose.

Two things change at midnight UTC, the same in every room: one rule, and one weapon worth hunting. The daily box on the menu tells you both, and the town target: 300 freezes a day for the whole town, +100 XP for everyone who played when it lands.

Today's twist

  • Low GravityGravity called in sick. Nobody has told the snowballs.
  • Cocoa DayEveryone is fast. Like they had three.
  • Big SnowSnowballs the size of your head. Hard to miss.
  • Fast ThawFrozen for one second. Grudges last longer.
  • Deep PocketsTen snowballs on you at once.

You get a banner when you join and at every round start, so nobody can claim they didn't know.

Weapon of the day

One of the 20 weapons gets the spotlight. Find it, freeze people with it, collect.

  • +15bonus points on every freeze with it
  • 2×counts double toward mastery
  • 1 in 4weapon crates in town hold it
  • Beacona tall beam in its color marks its crates

Hold the zone

The Soapbox

One spot in town where standing still and shouting is rewarded. Just like real life.

  • 4points a second while you hold it
  • 45 sthen it moves somewhere else
  • 2 sidesinside at once and it's contested. Nobody scores.
  • Halfof all weapon crates spawn near it

Care packages. Every named streak drops a care package on you: a random weapon if you're on snowballs, or a full clip for the one you hold. Streaks feed themselves. Bots get them too, which is fair and occasionally terrifying.

Wild turkeys wandering through the snowy town in-game

Wild turkeys. They survived Thanksgiving and they are not leaving. A hit is worth 5 points; sending one off is worth 50.

Bonuses. Freeze with style.

A freeze is worth 100 points. The right freeze at the right moment is worth more, and gets its own popup.

  • Bounty. Whoever is clearly ahead (three or more freezes and a 100-point lead) gets a target on their name tag, and a banner telling them so. Good luck to them.
  • Nemesis. Freeze someone three times in a round and you're their nemesis. They're told. Freezing you back pays Nemesis Down and clears the grudge.
  • Name tags. A flame for a streak of three or more. A target for the bounty. A crown for the week's top three. The room knows who to gang up on.
  • Taunts. Press T (or the taunt button on a phone) and your fighter says one of 20 fixed lines, like "My lawyer is also a snowman." Everyone sees the speech bubble. One every 4 seconds. Frozen players can still taunt. It's funnier.

A snowball that whistles past your head gets a CLOSE ONE popup. A streak that beats your all-time best gets a banner.

Modes

  • Free-for-all

Everyone against everyone. Trust nobody, especially the person waving.

  • Team match

Red against Blue. Same town, same snow, now with someone to blame.

  • Parties

Bring friends into the same room. Party members can't hit each other, which saves a few friendships.

Up to 12 players per room. Bots fill empty spots, and games against bots never change anyone's rating.

Pinecone Falls. Population: hostile.

The whole fight happens in one town, 160 by 128 meters, split into 16 districts. Press M in game to see where you are.

Progression

XP

  • XP from every round you play.
  • +150 for your first win of the day.
  • +20 for finishing in the top 3.
  • Daily streak bonus, up to +50%.

Daily challenges

  • 3 new challenges every day.
  • 60 to 150 XP each.
  • +200 XP for finishing all three.
  • Finish one mid-round and the game tells you right then.

Weekly contract

One big goal a week, the same for everyone. It adds up across rounds and pays 450 to 600 XP. A new one starts every Monday at 00:00 UTC. It's one of these:

  • Freeze 60 people
  • Play 20 rounds
  • Land 25 headshots
  • Finish top 3 eight times
  • Take out 12 turkeys
  • Win 5 rounds
  • Land 30 assists
  • Freeze 15 in the squall
  • Pocket 3 slush fund drops
  • End 15 streaks

Weapon mastery

Freeze 25 people with one weapon to master it: 250 XP, kept forever. The weapon display shows your count as you go. The Arsenal on the Winter Season screen tracks all 20.

Wins in a row

  • Two wins in a row: +50 XP.
  • Three: +75 XP.
  • Four or more: +100 XP each.
  • Quitting mid-round ends the run. Nice try.

Levels

Thirty of them, each with a title. You start at Fresh Powder (level 1) and, with enough time on your hands, finish as Legally a Weather System (level 30).

Winter Season track

The Winter Season screen on the main menu has eight tiers, reached by level. The free track is live, and each item unlocks on its own when you reach its level. Some cosmetics are free on the track and from drops and chests; others will be sold. They only change the look.

  1. Level 2Title: Mildly Damp
  2. Level 3Bucket Hat of Plausible Deniability
  3. Level 5Municipal Traffic Cone, and the title Snow Day Absentee
  4. Level 7Mall Santa Beard, and the title Local Menace
  5. Level 10Suburban Camo, and the title Town Council Agenda Item
  6. Level 12Title: Regional Weather Event
  7. Level 15Witness Protection Disguise, and the title Federal Snow Emergency
  8. Level 20Title: Ice Age

Two more free looks come from chests: the Paper Crown of Middle Management (Daily Chest) and the Glitter Bomb Trail (Streak Chest). The premium track is part of the $7.99 Winter season pass.

Leaderboards and rating

There are three leaderboards, each showing the top 50, on this site and in the game. Today covers the last 24 hours and This week starts fresh every Monday at 00:00 UTC, both ranked by points, so a new player can make a board on their first evening. All time ranks by rating, then KOs. The week's top three wear a crown on their name tag in every match until someone takes it.

Your rating is Elo, and it only moves in games between real players.

  1. SnowflakeUnder 1050
  2. Flurry1050+
  3. Snowstorm1200+
  4. Blizzard1400+
  5. Ice King1600+

After the round. Receipts.

The results screen is where the bragging happens. It shows your place, how far you climbed on the leaderboard, the points to the player above you, your XP and your challenges. During the round, a pace line under your score says where this one is heading against your average, and the top five always carries your own row with the gap to the place above.

Round awards

Spread around the room, so more than the winner gets a rosette.

  • Cold Front
  • Unstoppable
  • Headhunter
  • Soapbox Hog
  • Turkey Whisperer
  • Team Player
  • Storm Chaser
  • Closer
  • Party Pooper
  • Treasurer
  • Human Popsicle
  • Spray and Pray

Round MVP

The top scorer gets a card with their paper cutout, score, freezes and award. If it's you, it says so. If it isn't, the thing to beat now has a face.

Tomorrow

A line about what's next: tomorrow's twist, your play streak, what's left on the weekly contract and what your next win is worth. The menu also remembers how your last round went.

Clips and sharing

Proof, or it didn't happen.

  • Record a clip. Press R (or REC) to record up to 30 seconds of play, with the HUD and the sound.
  • Auto-clips. On desktop, your first freeze quietly starts recording. Turn it into a streak of two or more and the clip waits for you on the results screen. A lone freeze gets thrown away, so every clip you're offered is worth posting. Press R during one to keep it no matter what.
  • Share to X. On a phone it opens the share sheet with your clip. On desktop it downloads the clip and opens a ready-made post on X.
  • Share my round. A button on every results screen draws a square poster: your paper cutout, a headline like LOCAL MENACE WINS ROUND or PERSON OF INTEREST, your place, score, freezes, best streak and award. One tap.

Fair play

  • Report buttonReport a username or suspected cheating straight from the game.
  • No free targetsStand still for two and a half minutes in a round, no moving and no throwing, and you're sent back to the menu. It tells you why.
  • One game per accountAccounts are 18+ only, passwords are hashed, and an account locks after 8 failed logins.
  • Clips stay with youClips you record with R are made in your browser and never uploaded.
